Canon USA Headquarters

History:  Empire was retained to work on two projects for the corporation lasting over five years. The first was related to economic development, the second was pending legislation in Albany.

Challenge: Canon, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of camera and photographic image devices was in search of a new Americas Headquarters with several national locations in consideration.

Empire successfully negotiated a $103 million incentive package for Canon’s Americas H.Q.

Solution: Empire was tasked with the following:

    • developing an incentive package from the State of New York;
    • mobilize local public officials, labor unions, and community groups to support the development of its new facility;
    • convince the Huntington Town Board to amend its zoning requirements to allow the building to be located adjacent to the Long Island Expressway; and
    • convince the Town of Riverhead within three weeks time to give up part of their Empire Zone boundaries and move it 20 miles west to the new Canon location in Huntington Town.

Result: Empire successfully negotiated a $100 million incentive package with the state and Canon is near completion of its project that will bring over 2,500 new jobs to Long Island as well as over $700 million in investment.
